Bridge Pier Scour Protection

Great Yarmouth harbour - Scour Protection to bridge pier and quay wall

In the inner harbour of Great Yarmouth the quay wall and bridge piers were being undermined by erosion due to high water currents.

The solution was in two parts :

• Lean Sand Asphalt was placed in bulk underwater to support the quayside foundations
• Open Stone Asphalt mattresses were pre-fabricated and placed underwater around the bridge piers and along the quay wall on the outside of the bend in the channel.
