Scarborough Outfall Channel, North Yorkshire
Erosion protection to outfall channel
The channel at Wheatcroft, near Scarborough had suffered much erosion over the years and was threatening the integrity of an outfall pipe which took water from an important food processing plant out to the sea.
Maintenance was required after significant flows so Yorkshire Water looked for a long-term solution.
The chosen method was to re-profile the channel and provide erosion protection consisting of 150mm Open Stone Asphalt placed on a geotextile filter.
Topsoil was brushed into the surface of the asphalt to encourage vegetation to grow over the surface.
