ELASTOCOAST launched in UK
A new material is now available in the UK for the protection of coastal revetments ELASTOCOAST
launched in UK.
Elastocoast is a special elastomeric polyurethane system
made by Elastogran, one of the world's leading companies in the field of
polyurethanes. The material has been
developed with specialists from the Institute
of Hydraulic Engineering
at the Technische Universtität Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH).
Since construction of the first groyne on the banks of the
river Elbe in 2003, Elastocoast projects have
been undergoing a comprehensive monitoring programme. The first coastal project was installed in
2005 on the island
of Sylt of the German
coast and this revetment has performed very well to date.
Elastocoast consists of coarse aggregate bound together with
a two-component polyurethane to produce a strong, porous material which is a
cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing alternative to rock or concrete
revetments.
Hesselberg Hydro is working with Elastogran to promote
Elastocoast in the UK and
the first pilot project was installed on the Essex
coastline in spring 2008.
